About Holley's Printing

Clarence Holley, the founder of Holley's Printing, began his commercial printing operation in 1961 with two small presses, a shirtful of handset type and a camera in a small shop in Pulaski, Tennessee. Within two years, Holley's Printing added two employees, a linotype, a large folder and two more presses. In 1963 the growing business was first relocated in two rooms (1200 sq. ft.) of the 4,100 square foot facility that became its home for the next thirty years.

In 1987 Hershel Lake purchased the company from Clarence Holley and Holley's Printing became part of Pulaski Publishing, Inc. -- the corporate entity of the Pulaski Citizen, established in 1854.

Over the next six years each facet of the business expanded creating a need for additional employees and floor space to accommodate the growth. In 1993, Holley's Printing purchased the Hays Distributing building at 955 West College Street which increased production and office space from 4,100 to over 25,000 square feet. Staff size grew over those years from twelve to thirty-two employees. These changes accommodated the new ventures Holley's Printing had moved towards -- flexographic printing and four color process sheet-fed printing.

In 1998, Holley's again experienced a need for expansion with significant growth in the four color and flexo departments and added an additional 17,500 sq. ft. of production space. An additional 4,000 sq. ft. for the accounting offices were added when the old Co-Op building was joined to the new addition.

The years 2001 through 2004 introduced new equipment and services designed to meet our clients‘ need for speed. Among the changes were: the installation of two 28” two-color Komori’s and a 28” five-color Komori; an FTP server for immediate uploads of electronic files; inkjet addressing and direct mail preparation; converting the graphic and pre-press departments to direct-to-plate technology with a Nexus server, Flexo Cal, Cromapro proofing system and Presstek platesetter.

In 2005, Holley’s Printing focused on becoming a more web-interactive printer. Clients can now shop 24 hours a day for promotional items, wedding invitations and research mail lists. On-line quote requests and job re-ordering make it easier for clients to work at their convenience.

The fall of 2005 saw yet another addition to printing services offered when owner Hershel Lake moved the newspaper production to the facility. A 9-unit Harris web press and Agfa platesetter were installed to increase the color capabilities. The direct-to-plate technology has taken the print quality from the standard 85 lpi to the next level at 120 lpi.

With the demand for short-run color and total personalization, Holley's again listened to the needs of the their customers. December 2008 Holley's stepped into the digital world with the purchase of the Oce' digital printer and variable data software.

In April 2009, in-house flood UV coating became the latest offering to add that special finish to your printed materials! With this technology being installed in our facility, Holley's will be able to offer short-run coating.

May 2009 our silkscreening moved into production. Meeting the demand for higher quality and quicker turnaround, our silkscreening team continually fine tunes their screen making quality and will be looking to expand into different opportunities in this medium.
